You need a HD with OS 9 installed on it only, no hint of an OSX bootloader.
An external monitor as suggested previously.
If this was the case couldn't you just disconnect the HD and boot
from an OS 9 CD?

Hi All
A friend of mine has a Mac LC630 running OS 7.5.5. I'm told it can
be safely upgraded to 8.1.
My problem .. where to find a download source or copy of the OS 8
install program.
