RAM Upgrade for new iMac

Hi WAMUGers Looking at buying an iMac for xmas. It comes with 2? ram slots and 1 x 512 module installed I think. I would like to get lots of RAM for Motion etc. I can get 2 x 1GB modules for $189 each ( and I guess I throw the 512 one away). Is this the best way to go in your opinion please? ta
