Another thought ;-) You can increase the volume in Garage Band.
Drag the file to Garage Band and increase master volume and re-save.
You can also create ringtones in GarageBand as well & 'Send to iTunes'.

Hi Neil,
Looks like for the Ringtone you have created you need to on your iPhone, move
the slider in Settings > Sounds to the far right (full volume).
That's how I have my iPhone sound setting.

Ensure that the volume of your song is high enough to be heard as a ringtone.
If the volume is too low, you can perform a volume adjustment in iTunes.
Simply right click on it, select "Get Info" and then "Options" to access the
volume slider.
