IPhone now turns off

A day or so before the iPhone 5S was released and I came out of contract with Vodafone, my iPhone 4S would not turn off. None of the solutions suggested by WAMUG subscribers worked. But today it turned off. I no longer suspect a cunning plot aimed only at me to replace my iPhone with a 5S :). I
