Hi Kevin,
Look at the - System Preferences > Accessibility, then click 'Mouse & Trackpad'.
Make sure Mouse Keys is OFF.
If Mouse a keys is ON, pressing keys in the numeric keypad moves the pointer
instead of entering a number.

today I noticed that the numbers on my extended Mac keyboard are not working.
The numbers in the QWERTY area work still.I have changed keyboards but the
same problem occurs.I have tried the keyboards on other Macs here and they
work fine.

1. Re-installation via OS X Recovery - no success. Download failed.

Thanks Peter, yes have tried that and unfortunately no good. Back at
the start of the thread i outlined these things. My iPhoto library is
in a transitional state that did not complete which has left both the
iPhoto library and the Photos library inaccessible.

Fair summary of the status I think.
I get odd results with a PRAM reset. Pressing and holding the
