iPhone 6 battery indication

The battery indication on my iPhone 6 is erratic to say the least. I normally switch my phone off at sleep time and on again at wake up. TheBattery capacity in Settings says 96% of new. Last night at switch off time it said 36% and I mentally noted the need for a charge tomorrow, ie today.
