Auto startup of iTunes

My Wife's iPhone4s when connected up to her Macbook (Snow Leopard), doesn't automatically initiate the startup of iTunes. It does however initiate the startup of iPhoto - i think because it detects new photos on it not previously synced. Is there a setting somewhere to make iTunes auto start
