Hello,

I'm using 10.5.8 on a PowerPC G5 iMac

This was going to be a query, but in the process of double checking what I
was going to ask, I found a solution all by myself :-)

It might help others so here goes the problem and my solution.

I opened a Finder window and in the sidebar I have loaded a number of
folders I access regularly. One of them stopped working and I got a message
that the alias could not be found. Lets call it 'Work' folder

I could not delete this entry in the sidebar as when I tried control
clicking or dragging on the "Work" icon in the sidebar, all I could get was
"this alias is not working" message.

I tried restarting the computer.
I tried force quitting the finder and relaunching it.
I duplicated the 'Work' alias by dragging the original "Work" folder onto
the sidebar and another alias was created with "Work". This alias worked.
No change - still couldn't delete the non functioning alias.

The solution was a bit of mystery to why it should have worked.
I changed the name of the destination folder "Work" to "Play" and suddenly
both the aliases changed their display name and both became functional
again.

It would seem that the message 'alias cannot be found' was a bit of a fib
because if it really couldn't be found, then it wouldn't have responded to a
rename of the original folder I would have thought.

So, problem solved for me!

Tim
