I reckon you are spot on.
When it loses contact I usually just drop it gently onto the desk and it
resumes.
But when it does this every couple of minutes it gets very frustrating.

When did you last replace the batteries in your Magic Mouse? The batteries
might be flat.
If the batteries are fairly new, and the green light is flashing - go to
Bluetooth preferences and remove the mouse completely from the list of known
devices then re add it.
