I have a vast number of emails which are well and truly redundant.
I have tried to delete them, but they don’t appear to become fully eliminated.

I updated from Yosemite OS X 10.10.1 to 10.10.2 using the
OSXUpdCombo10.10.2.dmg (841.1MB file size)
Installation only took 5mins, including the Apple ID SignIn setup windows.
I have not experienced the problem you are having in Apple Mail & have not
heard of any issues with this.
