Thanks to those who responded to my earlier email on installing the OS
10.1.1 update...problem solved!

And for those who are interested and are already running Office v. X
The problem with my G4/500 not going into deep sleep mode has been, to some
degree, solved.

I noticed that with no applications running my G4 would not go into deep
sleep. However, I had Entourage open at one stage and my computer did then
go into deep sleep.

I found doing the following, which I found out about at Mac Fixit, helped,
in other words allowed my G4 to go into deep sleep again. This relates to a
startup item called ŒMicrosoft Database Daemon¹.

³After doing some digging this is what I found. Turn off Office
Notifications then restart Entourage. With Entourage running go into the
Startup Items. You will see the Database Daemon. Close the System
Preferences and then close Entourage. Go back into System Prefs and the
Startup Items. The Database Daemon is gone.

Seems that Entourage puts the Database Daemon into the Startup Items
everytime it is run but removes it when you exit if Office Notifications is
turned off.²

So far this has worked. So, for anyone that may also be experiencing this
problem, I hope this helps.

Michael
