When I went overseas last year, I just set up my OzEmail account for global access. There is an extra fee, but most major ISPs allow connection to ISPs all over the world. In many countries there is a single country-wide number to ring.

I found this out after ages trying to connect directly to ATTNet and AOL. Their systems were so culturally imperialistic that I couldn't use them. The only way I could join was by a long distance phone call to the States!

However, all was not so easy. The OzEmail system uses a program called IPass Connect. You can't bypass this and manually set up your settings. Colleagues with Wintel machines found this worked fine, but it was a dog on my Mac. I think the PC version was compiled code, but the Mac version was done in Applescript. It took 2 minutes to load, and then another 2 minutes to connect. The first time in each new country was a nightmare!

This probably doesn't help, but it tells you what to look out for. :-}

[Hi... Is there anyone out there who's used/setup dialup connections
in the UK while travelling ?]

Sorry to use your direct email, BUT. I'm rather
stuck. I have been trying to find a ISP to use in the
UK and the Channel Islands for a iBook laptop (OSX,
640ram, 20gig) etc.... And although I have found BT
and Demon I have no idea how to organise it from this
end, (Australia). Running out of time as the person
that will be using it is leaving for UK on Friday.

Is it possible to sign up and get everything working
from here? The person using the iBook is computer
illiterate, and will not be able to do it for them
selves there.

I have been told by a friend that WAMUG has members
that travel in UK and use ISPs there.

You help would be greatly appreciated.
