Yup, time to get Toast 5. I've had great success with putting Sony CRX140E (ie 8x), CRX 160E (ie 12x), and CRX1611E (ie 16x) drives in various beige G3, blue/white G3, and G4 Macs. I've had no problems with software at all. Each Mac has even started up from a system CD by holding down the C key
