Hi All

Just a follow up to thie problem, and for the records,...the winning prize goes to,...Neil Houghton!!! Thanks Neil. It was indeed the USB Printer Sharing Extension! I had turned off the Control Panel when I first was there, and forget the extension! (Don't get distracted when on a job!) :o) I have just been back and checked the extensions again, found USB Print Share on, turned it off, and the problem was solved!!!

So thanks for all your suggestions! And thanks again Neil, much appreciated!

Have fun all!

Kind Regards
Daniel Kerr

Hi All

I am hoping someone might be able to help me out here. I have a
client with the following problem:

Running a G4 733MHz SuperDrive (Digital Audio)
Mac OS 9.2.2 / 512MB RAM
Internet connection via mobile through a PABX (dials a prefix of 870
to get out past the PABX)

When you start the computer in the morning, connect to the Internet
everything works fine. Dials up not dramas. They then launch Outlook
Express, get their email and quit. They then try and disconnect
Remote Access, which says "disconnecting PPP",....goes quite, then
starts dialing it again. (it never says it got disconnected.) If you
click disconnect or cancel it goes through the same
thing,...disconnecting,..then dials up during this process,...and so
on and so on.

Hi Daniel,

Don't know if you got this sorted yet but a while back I had a similar
problem and tracked it to the USB printer sharing extension:

For anyone interested, I have now
found the problem. After hitting the 'disconnect' button out of habit, I
pulled out the phone jack to abort the re-dial and the computer froze. I
then tried 'command/option/escape' and was surprised to see that the
response box asked if I wanted to quit 'USB Printer Sharing Extension'
>
Surmising that this extension could be causing the problem, I opened the USB
Printer Sharing Control Panel, which showed that printer sharing was off.
Clutching at straws, I turned sharing on and then went to the 'my printers'
pane which now showed my deskjet 840 C printer, with the 'share' box ticked,
I unchecked the box and then went back and turned sharing off again. The
problem has now disappeared, though I must admit I still don't really
understand what the problem was!

So even with printer sharing nominally turned off, the extension was causing
a problem. Since 'unsharing' the printer before turning off printer sharing,
the problem has not resurfaced. (This was on a 400MHz G4 Powerbook running
OS 9.1).

Cheers

Neil
