I tried both Ronni's - Perian and Bob's - Squared5 options. While both were
able to make the audio audible on the iMac when it came to Toast, the audio
could again not be found.

This problem is nearly always solved by going to perian.org and
downloading/installing the appropriate version of the perian codec.
You’ll need to do the encoding again from the start.
Perian is not a program. It is a codec and it enables QuickTime (and therefore
