Which scanner?

I saw the which scanner email but I do not want a 'combined' printer scanner. I have looked on the archived list and the server is not supplying them at present. What is the best buy at present for a flatbed scanner up to about $500.00 hopefully with OCR included. Mac

Hi All My wife is into restoring old pictures and wants to buy a reasonable scanner for the purpose. She has mostly black and white pics. She wants good quality scans to edit in photoshop. Can anyone recommend a scanner, willing to pay for quality, say around $500 or so. (more if required)
