The "Show modes recommended by display" did work the reason I didn't
try it in the first place was that I looked at it and went "OK thats

One truly annoying thing I've noticed with my new PowerBook and have

Under OSX the resolutions supported for external monitors by OSX is
greatly reduced. For example a 21" Apple (Sony) display only shows
support for 800 by 600 resolution.
