After Opening iTunes, the iTunes 8.1.1 downloaded and installed fine
for me through Software Update.
"iTunes 8.1.1 adds support for renting HD movies and provides a number
of bug fixes, including addressing issues with VoiceOver and syncing
with iPhone or iPod touch."

Weird. iTunes tells me that there is a new version of iTunes available
(8.1.1), yet when I click 'Download iTunes', Software Update tells me
there is nothing new.
The update may fix your problem Andrew - if you get it.
