itunes won't shut down

Hi All Am using an iMac intel core duo on OS10.4.8 and for some reason I cannot get iTunes to shut down. I've tried force quit and have done that but it still keeps launching itself. Tried to shut down but it said I couldn't because iTunes was running. Finally had to push the button to cut off
