We know that Andy Griffith used the names of friends and acquaintances for seen and unseen characters in the show. I always thought of Carter French as the guy who was having a "Boiled Dinner" down at the Firehouse, when Andy wants to escape from Gomer the House-Guest. I just noticed in One-Punc
