Something I always wondered about concerning Floyd's barbering techniques.
I notice that every single time I have seen Floyd cut hair he uses only a
comb and scissors. When I got my hair cut all the time I was growing up in
the late 50's and through the 60's and maybe even beyond that time,

I don't understand. Does that mean Elinor Donahue lip-synched her own singing

I'm not sure about Joanna Moore's singing (sounds like her though)but Elinor
Donahue has told the story about her singing experience on the show.
Hey Ken,
I've cut my husband's hair for years, and have always used an electric
razor. Now, if my memory serves me correctly, when my mom cut my brothers'
hair, she used scissors, a comb, and a bowl. But that's another story, from
another era!

When I was a boy in the mid 1960s, I spent a lot of time on the Desilu studio
ets, because Frances Bavier was my grandmother.
Gosh, Paul - since I only have girls at home that means you must be my
nephew?
Haven't you ever wondered in the one episode why Aunt Bee's cousin was named
I was interested in the comment of Paul's about Aunt Bee being his grandmother.
I never knew Frances Bavier was married let alone had children. In fact, there
is very little I know about Miss Bavier. I always thought the character was a

When I was a little girl, Daddy told Mama he was going to get his hair cut and
would get my bangs cut. Mama was speechless. Take her child into a
barbershop! Well, I wanted to see Floyd and because I was Daddy's girl I went.
I loved it. They had magazines, which I was too little to read.
As Spock would say, Fascinating. As Gomer would say, Shazam!
Paul thanks for sharing this memories with us. Have you ever thought
about writing a book? I imagine your memories coupled with your steel-
trap like mind for TAGS facts would make it a great read.

I think the electric clippers would have been too noisy...Of course, Floyd
could have just pretended to be actually cutting the hair with them, same as he
did with the scissors. But might have been more noticeable that he was just
pretending.

Ken, on the wall in the barber shop there is a sign listing the price
of a flattop. We know you can't do a flattop with just scissors - you need
clippers. So I
