Everytime I visit the Downtown Cinema in Mt. Airy, NC during Mayberry Days, I wonder what films Andy viewed there in the 1930s and 1940s. He was astounded by musician Jack Teagarden in 'Birth of the Blues' (1944), which he saw at the Earle. Later, Teagarden's name appears listed in the end credits of TAGS, but he is not seen. This might be the only instance in which a performer Andy saw in a film at the cinema as a youth, was asked to be on TAGS years later.
