How much older than Leon was Opie? Ope wandered way farther than Leon. I subscribe to the theory that Mayberry is just plain safe, and there wasn't a worry that someone wasn't always looking out for each other's young 'uns. That was the way it worked with my mama and her network back in the 60's.
