Mike, I'm with you about it being Howard who did the singing, although in some ways it sounds a bit like Don Knotts. Although the singer's voice isn't typical of Don's, in its sound, I was going back to the sound of Don's voice in "Now In The Month Of Maying".
This topic is fascinating and might beg for some investigation into the manner in which the shows were produced at that time. For example, was this radio voice 'feature' done simultaneous to the scene being shot (elsewhere on the soundstage), or was it pre or post recorded and mixed in with the scene? The Griffith Show was a little different from the usual 3 camera sitcoms, many of which tended to do things as much on the cheap as possible. The single camera approach of the Griffith Show, however, may have afforded the resources necessary to perhaps pre or post record such a feature. So, to make a long story longer..lol...it may (or may not) have been Don Knotts. Leonard Blush's speaking voice does sound almost like a different voice than that of the singing voice (although this is common in many singers). Howard Morris was undeniably a man of many voices, as well, and I wouldn't doubt it for a minute if he did the singing and news reporter voice (which is very evident in his speaking voice and range).
