I thought I would share some of the interesting things that makes Oregano such a "secret ingredient" in spaghetti.
Oregano means Joy of The Mountain in Ancient Greek. ( Wonder if that was Lydia's mother's maiden name.) Ancient Greeks believed that cows that grazed in fields full of oregano had tastier meat. ( I think the Darlings should feed oregano to the hoot owls and possum.) When in bloom they have beautiful purple or pink flowers that are also edible. ( I think those purple and pink flowers would make great necktie designs for Gomer.) The Ancient Greeks also believed that if you anoint yourself with oregano you will dream about your future spouse. ( That is providing you don't lick it all off yourself during the night,) And finally: When using dried oregano crush it a little in your hand to release the essential oils and flavor. ( Some also say that rubbing it on your feet will prevent your feet from falling asleep.) If you ask me, I think those Ancient Greeks had an Oregano compellsion. No wonder all their buildings fell apart. They were so busy worrying about oregano they did a shoddy job of construction. Let this be a lesson to you. If you want a good strong building that will last, you have to go to Mt. Pilot. -- Ken Anderson The Mayberry Guru 2906 May Street Eau Claire, Wisconsin 54701 www.themayberryguru.com www.mayberryreflections.com _______________________________________________ WBMUTBB mailing list WBMUTBB@wbmutbb.com http://www.mayberry.com/tagsrwc/wbmutbb/
