I recently picked up a classic comedy from Netflix, the 1963 advertising
farce "The Thrill of It All" co-starring Doris Day and James Garner. It was
fun seeing a lot of Mayberry alumni throughout the film. Edward Andrews,
who played Hubert St. John the lecturer, is actually one of the main stars
of the film. One scene in which work trucks haul away soap suds from a
back yard (long story), two bystanders are played by Dorothy Neumann (Mrs.
Otis Campbell) and Hallene Hill (the old lady who tried to sell Barney a car
during the epilog of "Barney's First Car). Burt Mustin (Jud Fletcher) plays
a butler, Herbie Faye (who appears in several episodes in various roles)
pops up in a traffic jam (he's in a car with future "Bewitched" regular Alice
Pearce)...and near the end of the film, when James Garner is at the
hospital, dressed in his scrubs, look closely at the doctor who's assisting
him.
He's better known to us for fixing other kinds of things: he's Paul
Hartman, a/k/a Emmett Clark.
