I don't get TV Land either, but the special I saw was on Nick at Nite. It consisted of the special that aired on network TV around 1993, the one where the men sing the Mayberry High song at the end of the show, wearing their letterman jackets. Then there were two episodes of TAGS. OK, so what did each of them letter in at Mayberry Union High? John O. I usually see at least on TAGS cast member everyday. Denver Pyle is on there quite often but I've seen a very young Elizabeth MacRae (Lou ANN Pouvey), James Best (Jim Lindsey), Dabbs Greer, Howard McNear and so many others. If you get this channel, check it out. At the end of the episode is seems like Ed Sawyer (the stranger) fits into Mayberry and even buys the Filling Station. However...do we ever see him again?<<< Josh, that's an interesting question that I have thought about as well. In fact that episode, I believe, contains more characters that we never, or rarely see again in Mayberry, than any other episode! (stranger indeed) To answer your question, no we never see Ed again, nor do we see Lucy Matthews (who he wants to call on), or Floyd the original barber, or Mrs. Buntley and the twins, or Bill Matthews, or George Sepley! The actor Pat Colby, who plays Bill Matthews returns once as Jimmy in "The Filling Station Robbery". Jason and Pete return as extras 3 and 2 times respectively. William Erwin, who plays George Sepley returns once in Mayberry on Record, as an investor. Sara Seegar as Mrs. Buntley also has just one more appearance as Mrs. Farmer in the Merchant of Mayberry. So was Ed really the only Stranger in Town??? Here is my conspiracy theory. Ed married Lucy Matthews and starts his own town. He becomes a lawyer and owns a bowling alley (oops sorry wrong Ed, and wrong small town..that's Stuckeyville). When Ed goes to draw up the papers on the filling station, he actually persuades George Sepley and Floyd the Barber to come to his small town "Sawyerberry" with him, and fianci Lucy. That cleared the way for Wally to buy the station, and Floyd Lawson to take over the Barbershop. Think about it!! Now Ed doesn't feel like a stranger anymore, and no deputies accuse him of being an alien or a fereigner (spoken de deutch) Its entirely possible! ---------------- Here's a Trained Noticer comment on another episode, "Floyd the Gay Deceiver". When Andy sits down with Madelyn Grayson to expose Floyd, before he mentions that he is not Floyd's son, he say "When people start writing letters in those groups like You and Floyd"...She is not surprised that he called his "dad" Floyd!! She just lets him go on with his explanation. Not so sharp after all is she? I was out of town and asked my wife to record it, but told her the wrong time (I forgot to adjust for Central Time rather than Eastern). Did anyone see it? Is it worth watching? Thanks....Skip --__--__-- Message: 5 From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Date: Sun, 8 Dec 2002 03:05:56 EST Subject: Ed Sawyer To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] You might have seen him again if you watch "Newhart" (another show with a great theme song). William Lanteau, Ed's alter ego, played the role of Chester Wanamaker.
