Jason, I can recite the entire alphabet, blindfolded, and in both lower and
upper case. But you have to remember I came through the Wisconsin
educational system and I was a teacher for 36 years so I may have an unfair
advantage.

Hello All:
I have enjoyed the discussion on the ABCs. When I was in the police academy
and took the radio class, we were told several things to keep numbers clear and
words. This include saying like d david etc. And saying multiple digits one
at a time. To keep the numbers clear. That
Just putting my 2 cents in here. Just read Vic Friskey's alphabet and
numbers...and i almost totally agree with his explanations. The only thing in
question to me is the number 5. To my recollection from my Coast Guard days in
the early 70's, the proper way to say 5, was (as i saw someone post

On the alphabet I keep reading about, everyone is calling F Foxfire. As I
remember from my Coast Guard days, F was always Foxtrot. Wonder if somewhere
down the line it was changed?? Curious curious curious. And speaking of

In the NATO alphabet, F is, and always has been, Foxtrot. However, NATO
defines the pronunciation of the number 5 as fife.
I thought it was sort of appropriate that Fife is 5. After all, that's what
they put on the back of his watch.

I believe the F in the NATO Alphabet actually stands for Foxtrot. At least I
hope so, otherwise I have been teaching it incorrectly for the past eight years.
Hope everyone in WBMUTBB land is enjoying the Christmas season.

I was in a meeting yesterday and the client had a poster on the wall with the
NATO Phonetic Alphabet listed (i.e. A - Alpha, T - Tango, E - Echo). I noticed
that the pronunciation for the number five was listed as Fife.

Lately Nickelodeon has been airing a commercial for a new kids' movie entitled
Alpha and Omega. I asked my daughter if she knew what that meant, and went
on
to explain that the word alphabet comes from the first two letters in the
Greek alphabet. Then I said it goes Alpha, Beta, Gamma, Delta
