I was thinking about background actors--those who speak..and those who don’t. I need to go back and look for the string about the one lady that Barney dances with. After the moulage about was she or wasn’t she Lucy’s stand-in, I lost track.
I found another lady, however, who like so many others, played a few different roles..some that were very different. Remember these? To Aunt Bee “I made Meatballs because everyone likes my meatballs” Aunt Bee “Thank You Lillian” (everyone actually hates her meatballs because they are so dry according to Barney and Aunt Bee.) “The Rumor” aka surprise engagement party for Andy and Helen. “Nate, they’re doing a Cha-cha-cha” Nate Bracey’s wife at the “Class Reunion” “So, I threw a chicken at him” (fighting couple at the beginning of “Andy’s Vacation” that Andy fines $10). Her name was Maudie, and she was very different from Lillian and Mrs. Bracey. (quotes are paraphrased—not exact) That is none other than Molly Dodd..all the same Actress. Like Reta Shaw (Elinora Poultice and Maude the Ballroom Dancing Prisoner) a few very different characters..from Ballroom Dancing, to in trouble with the law. She appeared on approximately 30 different TV shows From Hazel To Gomer Pyle USMC to Eight is Enough and Rockford Files in 1977 just 4 years before her death in 1981 at the age of 59.
