Thanks Peter et al, I found the trouble--and through google not Macromedia. When using Secure FTP with Dreamweaver it puts everything using binary regardless of the file extension specs in the Dreamweaver configuration file. If it were put in ASCII, Unix could figure out to toss out the carriage
