I've got a critically important hit counter that works fine most the time but seems to get bottled up and lose its mind when too many people hit it at once. It's in PERL and on someone's suggestion I script in some flocks for when the data file is open. That helped, but bad thingsoccasionally still happen. I've thought about using a MySQL database table and incrementing each page's field everytime it is call, but I worry that might be just as prone to overloading at busy times.
Any suggestions anyone?
