Same result with the seemingly correct syntax:
/app/default/data/select/tablename.xml
With tablename=dog
/app/default/data/read/dog/1
produces a read-only form with dog #1 info
while
/app/default/data/read/dog/1.xml
creates a ticket:

be instead
