If what I'm looking at is the trunk (I'm still a little fuzzy on hg updates), 
there's a problem between app_install() and w2p_update(). 

The former can deliver a filename: name.tar.gz. The latter converts this to 
name.tar.tar, if I'm reading it right.

(Also, wouldn't it be good to handle name.tgz?)
