and added a weewx user to it, I would reboot and see if the problem
persisted.

Thanks for the hint. I just got the router to sniff the network traffic
between the hub and the weewx server (it's Fedora not Debian BTW) and as
it's HTTP and not HTTPS I can set every update unencrypted
e.g.
HTTP 124 GET
/weatherstation/updateweatherstation?dateutc=now&action=updat

The number of users who delete fields from the default db and break their
systems is very high. Just do not do that. Use the default database and
never delete fields. It does not save
sudo only issues the command as root.
What is in the service file for user and group?
That is who weewx is running as.
