There was an interface change in ApiMain.php wrt. to requesting write mode.
However, I think the problem has already been fixed in trunk with r50833.

Oops, excuse my naivity. DNG files are TIFF files, but with additional
DNG-specific tags; they can be identified by the presence of a DNGVersion tag.
