Web browser: --- Bug #: 38304 Summary: Squashing of whitespace for languages that uses double whitespace Product: MediaWiki extensions Version: unspecified Platform: All OS/Version: All Status: NEW Severity: normal Priority: Unprioritized Component: WikidataRepo AssignedTo: wikidata-b...@lists.wikimedia.org ReportedBy: jeb...@gmail.com CC: wikidata-b...@lists.wikimedia.org Classification: Unclassified Mobile Platform: --- When whitespace is squashed it is now reduced to a single whitespace. In some languages it is allowed (and common) to use a double space in some cases. This is not handled in well in squashWhitespace(), which compresses all whitespace into a single space. A solution could be to to leave double spaces as they are but compress all other sequences. This could be allowed on a per language basis. Such double spacing seems to be associated with sentence terminators, and as there is room for a short paragraph in the description, this can be a problem. Unless there are clear indication that this is critically wrong I propose we use whitespace compression into a single whitespace for now. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sentence_spacing_in_language_and_style_guides -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug. _______________________________________________ Wikibugs-l mailing list Wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org https://lists.wikimedia.org/mailman/listinfo/wikibugs-l
