I'm not seeing this 'flood of notices' anywhere. Where should I be looking?
Also what pages need aliases so it is clear how to resolve this bug.

Okay the flood of notices is only shown when $wgDevelopmentWarnings = true; and
when you visit a special page with no aliases setup.
Now this bug is much clearer.

where is this flood? I'm not seeing it thus I suspect there is some way we can
improve our process to identify this problem and stop it happening in future.
