Hi Lodewijk,
I fully agree that the writing contest is not specially focused for new editors
and is somehow out of the scope of WLM main goals.
A little of topic but anyway: Some feedback from the latest Swedish article
writing contest using these KISS rules. There were som frustration when
people starting making tiny stubs. The rules unfortunatley clearly make an
incentive for creating a 200 byte article, which takes almost no time at

Hi Lodewijk,

Hi Alex,
This is indeed as easy as it gets. However, it is significantly harder to
explain to a new editor than 'the best photo of a (national) monument is
chosen by a jury' - a one sentence explanation that does justice to the
concept is hard for a sitenotice etc - especially if we limit them to
Just for the record:
On the Catalan Culture challenge (writing contest) we did an scoring system
for writing articles based on the KISS principle:
These are the rules
- *+1 point* for each *(+1000 bytes)* of added content in any language.
- *+5 points* for each new translation of an articl
It's certainly an interesting suggestion. I wonder how difficult it would
be to track though compared to image uploads.

Agreed with Lodewijk, sounds too complex to explain. Easier to explain:
counting only images used in some page; or, counting images + edits
adding (anyone's) WLM images to articles. Both give an incentive for
"useful" images and article-editing, the second being less draconian.

Hi Asaf,
the idea was floated before, and I guess there are advantages and
disadvantages. The biggest downside imho is that it is too complicated to
explain quickly to new editors.
However, this is typically something that could just be tried out by a
country - and if I recall correctly there wer
HI Asaf,
in Catalan Areas we've been doing WLM for several years and we already have
great photo coverage, so we are discussing if this year's editions should
be focused on writing related Wikipedia articles ifor each monument instead
of promoting taking pics. Nothing has been decided yet, but is
Hi.
