Looking at our Summer of Code ideas page, I realized it was getting dense and unruly, so I and Maarten moved it off to the side and did a simpler one; see http://wiki.winehq.org/SummerOfCode The DirectX stuff in particular could use some more detail; could the knowledgeable people flesh it out?
