I think Joe Papp opened a lot of doors to Shakespeare for a lot of us. I remember his "Much Ado About Nothing", set in turn of the century America, that aired about the same time as the Lear you mention, and that set my mind afire. As with you, I hadn't given Shakespeare much consideration

He was a great state actor in the late 70’s he was in a repertory if plays at BAM, he was the lead in everyone. He was Brutus in Julius Caesar ( R Dreyfuss was Antony, not very good), Three Sisters, The Play’s the Thing. He was so good. Sent from my iPhone On Dec 9, 2019, at 7:00 AM, Mike
