Hi Viktor,
I am actually interested in solving this. I took an initial stab at it
here, but I'm not super comfortable with the implementation or the
security implications:

Aside from doing this from within our existing UI, the
Hello,
I've been wondering about using WireGuard on Windows as a non-admin user.
I have seen Jason's reply in this regard [1] and I understand the
rationale. This however effectively means that WireGuard can't be
directly used on company-issued machines where users who need to connect

It's not really a matter of cost of updating. Windows 10 *STILL*
activates using
Win7, 8 and 8.1 keys (including OEM licenses implemented via SLIC in
BIOS/UEFI
by using the COA key on the sticker or directly upgrading an activated
Win7 installation).
The update is actually free.

actually, they do. it's obsolete.
sadly it's still in use at high enough volume that people have to care about it.

For me, the UI preference absolutely; but security *is*

Good morning,
First of all, I would like to thank you kindly for creating WireGuard. It
is a wonderful piece of software. My thanks go to Jason, but also to the
whole community involved in that project. People tend to forget this kind
of work is mostly done during our spare time, it is really

Would seem to suggest Windows 7 is in decline but still represents
around 25% of OS footprint out there.

Hi,
Thing is, most home LANs have dedicated gateways doing this. Running a
Windows PC as a home router is exotic.
It might be easier for you to pick up a cheap router which runs OpenWrt
and set up it as gateway running Wireguard and local DNS resolver
(dnsmasq) too.
And even there, local DNS
We recently began deploying clusters of recursive DNS "firewalls" that
use wireguard to secure and authenticate all traffic between the client
and servers. What we quickly learned was that virtually the entire
customer base in India uses Windows 7 almost exclusively.
I can certainly understand

is no longer receiving security updates or fixes. This email is to get
the conversation started about doing the same with WireGuard for
Windows.
