Hey guys,
I have a farmer that wants farm coverage with
little or no trouble. He wants to browse from his tractor while the
satelite guides his tractor for him. I am putting out 2.4 from his
Elevator leg, and I believe with an omni he can get signal, is there a better
way to do this?

Hi,
Is your generator a computer friendly type? We have both a Honda and
Yamaha 1000 generators that deliver clean power (you can plug
electronics into them directly without problems). Those will charge the
UPS. The other thing we did was hook up a 5 gallon gas can with fuel
line directly to

Are you saying you don't have solar/wind power at this site and you
constantly shuttle gas?

Thanks Travis. I know that the Coleman is not 'computer-friendly' but I haven't
had a problem yet with it powering our equipment...just the problem with the
UPS.
How'd you rig you gas can...that IS the big problem with these smaller-wattage
generators is the tank size. Got photos?
I think we seem to have a little bit of twisting of thoughts and words
that needs to get put to rest. First, I do not PROMOTE regulation in
stating my position that I think we need to all fill out the FCC Form
477 which is mandated by the FCC to track broadband subscriber counts in

If you plug something into the surge only outlet on the UPS then when the
power goes down intermapper or whatever you use will let you know

Where do you get your generators? It's not like they need a ton of
juice. Small ones maybe? Can they be had pretty cheap? My noc is
small and requires not too much power.

Run it through a battery backup and call it good???
Would 1000 Watts run a couple computers and radios?

It's not actually mine. It's another's from the list. We were talking
about it. But I am sure that on my 230 ft run of cat 5 that I had to
replace an 18v 1a with an 18v 2a to get the radio to stop rebooting.
The individual I was talking to thought if you up the amps it will kill
the radio.
Well, I'm still at the point where the money in my checkbook is worth
more than my time. I guess I can get 6 of the others and tolerate the
noise and run around with fuel. 6 sites with backup is better than one
fancy one.

Lets exaggerate here. I can plug a billion amps in and it will only
draw what it wants, but if I go a volt or two over it fries.

That is correct. Now if you use a 10 amp supply and only need 2 amps and
there is a short up top there is a good chance you will burn your cat 5
cable up.

huh? I appologize if this was in-jest and I didn't recognize it.
You apply a potential when you connect something (a voltage). You don't
apply a current.
Neither voltage nor current kill most things. There are a few kinds of
things that are voltage sensitive but not typically found on the

Ross - about a year ago I put a 12dBi Omni on the top of my bronco with a 1watt Teletronics AMP behind it.. I was able to achieve FULL coverage for about 1.5miles around the tower through trees, houses, buildings, anything.
I would try it with a 12dBi Omni on his grain elevator

Well, what's worth a Generator without a Automatic Transfer Switch ?
We use this one on some POPS... its great

Time for some ohm law here guys. The radio you are powering is a load in
series with a transmission line that has resistance. The ohms of the
line and the ohms of the load add together to determine the effective
load for determining the amount of current flow that will be drawn. If
