3 phase metering (as in how much you pay the utility )is done different than
single phase, I would check with your utility, also check your initial costs
of 3 phase equipment - meter base and entrance panel. How I understand the

I put 3 phase into my datacenter because I have a three phase generator
and I knew eventually my load would be too big for a 1-phase generator
and potentially too big for a 1-phase service.
I know of no reason why it would handle lightning any differently. It
has a neutral/ground just like

One bad thing that i have seen with 3 phase is that you can lose 1 leg
of it and bad things happen. But as long as you are protected with a
UPS with filtering, you should be all good. Will also let you run more
efficiently with higher voltages.

Three phase does not provide any more or less protection against
lightning. I have three phase power to my house...lucky me...live in a 60
year old house. I, and one other guy on my block who still has three phase
power, both lost our AC compressors in a lightning storm on the same night

We just have a 3 phase meter. They read it like any other.
