I wanted to update and let everyone know exactly what happened with the
AN50s. As they're a ptp device I'm sure they're very important to everyone
using them and every second counts!
I had three AN50s on this tower. Two of them had problems one was fine.
They're all grounded the same way, same
Tom at Roc Noc got me taken care of. 13 hours of driving later I got
my units ready to be placed on the tower tomorrow.
Tom - once again, thank you very very much.
I am going to sleep for a couple hours and then fix this catastrophe.
P.S. someone crashed and died in the fog just west of
Josh,
You may want to consider having "spares" of this equipment on hand for
future problems. We keep enough spares to replace an entire tower
(licensed backhaul, AP's, UPS, rebooters, etc.) in our tower truck, and
we still have enough extra stuff at the office for more repairs if
needed.
Amen to that! -RickG

In a perfect world I would definitely do that. We have one service vehicle,
a second soon, but it sure is hard to hold onto thousands of gear in a
truck/shelf =/

I understand, and I've been there before... however, now when we buy
anything (new router, core switch, backhaul, etc.) we always buy a
"spare" as part of the purchase price. If we can't afford the spare, we
don't buy the original part.

Travis,
Absolutely excellent idea/point. I will definitely use that after
this weekend...
What happens if you can't buy spares anymore? I'm planning on just
swapping them with all new stuff :(

That's what kills me. Trango here, mt there, redline, etc

Well, I seen this situation of needing spares a long time ago, that's why I

So I wake up with thunder shaking the house and 3 minutes later, text
messages start blowing up my phone. I lost two out of three AN50 ODUs
and 3 of 3 433ah boards. Two Trango 5800 APs survive (though one
needed a new poe). The 493 concentrator/switch lost some ports, too.
