We also wire the AppleTVs but we span a VLAN from the wireless controller across campus so those AppleTVs are on a VLAN that is "local" to the controller. Then the controller handles the mDNS and you don't have to deal with Avahi. Works pretty well minus the fact that you can see all AppleTVs a
