We're using them with great success for authentication and passthrough.
 The only issue we have using the passthrough feature is that the guest
access is anonymous.  We've implemented the Cisco NAC Guest Server to
handle sponsored access.  You may also be able to use the lobby
ambassador feature, but it didn't fit our needs.

We have run into some of the connection issues you mentioned.  We're
currently at version 4.2.205.0 and everything is working well.
