we've done it as described here: http://wpkg.org/WPKG_with_Active_Directory
with StartupScripts for computers, not for users.
No need to install the client, but it is managed over AD and GPO in
combination with wpkgs own hosts-infrastructure which computer gets what
kind of software.

To Rainer: About running wpkg.js in the logon script, I was indeed
referring to running it with RUNAS with a admin user. We already did this
for rush installs, but the problem is that the password must be in clear
