Can anyone tell me what the current state of play is with the tags
& XHTML?
They seem to be the answer for a particular design I'm working on, and they
don't appear to be marked for deprecation.
Are there any compelling reasons not to use them? (Apart from them being
empty tags).

Fluid Dynamics (http://www.xav.com/scripts/search/) do a very nice Open
Source Perl based search engine script, which even has an automated
install from their web site. They also have a very nice, basic, site
tracking program called AXS, as well as a few other interesting
scripts.

you may want to address it by reducing the font
