I had this exact same issue. I thought it was the sound system on Ubuntu
24.04. I built from source as well. I spent two weeks “debugging” the sound
system issues until I posted to the main list and someone said to install the
Ubuntu 22.04
WSJT-X 2.7.0-rc7 compiled locally from source

I built the latest WSJT-X from source.
Since starting to use it I have started seeing more and more errors. It has
occurred multiple times today. It was also occurring in the last few days.
