Looks like on Kubuntu 22.04, I have QT packages from versions 5.15.3 to
5.15.9
Maybe time to upgrade to a later OS version?

Limited testing using split and fake it seems to work fine. I only performed
test cat and test ptt.
OS - Kubuntu 20.04

Rig - TS-590SG
I also have an IC-7300. If needed I can perform the same test with it.

You can use a cron job to do that. But, I don't know that I would empty/delete
ALL.TXT It could be useful some day. I try to remember to archive ALL.TXT from
time to time using a name to denote the date it was archived then I delete the
file.

Band planning is good idea. I've failed to understand why a given
segment of the bands were agreed on for JT65, JT9, FT4, FT8 and so
forth. Seems better to operate with any of those mode on any part of the
RTTY and data segments of the bands. Maybe the idea to use a given
